25.Aug.2009 The Paragraph – In Review - Lazaroc
The Paragraph played to a near capacity crowd at Spank on Saturday night. This was the first show I had seen at Spank since its transformation from Side Bar. The management had set up a nice stage platform for them to get the dance party started from. For those of you who haven’t been to Spank/Side Bar the stage area at the back of the venue is now a dj booth equipped with a retro car hood. This proved interesting as all of The Paragraph’s drums were being run off of Ableton Live from their drummer at the booth.
Honestly, walking into the club from the patio area I was oblivious to the fact that a live band was playing. It was not until leaving the bathroom that I noticed a bunch of commotion and dancing brewing near the front bar. After making my way over to where the band was playing I was impressed with the funk and soul jam that came next. The Paragraph’s sound was somewhere between James Brown commanding you to dance and put your hands up and an electro driven dance party. Throw in some fuzzy bass licks and distorted guitar solos and you have something that sounds unique and looks like this.

The Paragraph came down from New York to play a couple of shows around Florida. I will be looking forward to see where they are headed next as these guys definitely put together a solid set of live dance music.
