After taking all of Monday to relax and rest up, I am now ready to talk about what I witnessed on the streets of New Orleans. Close your eyes and imagine University Avenue from 13th St to Main St. Now put bars and clubs on both sides, alcohol vendors, and thousands of college kids and you have Bourbon Street.

Everywhere you looked were signs of drink specials and advertisements of Hand Grenades, Huge Ass Beers, and Jesters. Multiple locations of the same bars and clubs threw off drunken students ability to meet up via txt as street numbers were the smart way to give your location. The Streets were packed! Everywhere you went on bourbon street you would see friends, classmates, strippers, hustling shot girls, nipples, Elvis, and beads. Here is a little vid captured from the Weekend. Youtube’s terms and agreements won’t allow me post the other vids … sorry

I feel like Bourbon Street is one of those places that has been given so much hype over time that I wasn’t sure if it was going to meet my expectations. People weren’t overstating their love for it and the city of New Orleans. Over the weekend I met handfuls of genuine and sincere people who were more than hospitable. Its a place where bars close at 5:30 am just to open back up at 6:00 am if they close at all. The vibe is care free and no one is trying to be something they’re not, everyone is just having fun.

The years biggest Road Trip commences in just under 24 hours. As hordes of thirsty gator folk shoot straight down 10 breaking open container laws in each state on the way, New Orleans’s Bourbon Street is preparing for the traffic. If this is your first time hitting up a night on Bourbon street or you can’t remember the last time you were there, then maybe this will help.

Firstly, you need to be aware of Hand Grenades and beware of Hand Grenades. According to Urban Dictionary Hand Grenades are “a melon flavored alcoholic beverage sold at Tropical Isles on Bourbon Street in New Orleans. Marketed as the strongest drink on Bourbon Street, it is the equivalent of about 4 1/2 standard drinks” So needless to say, these are a lot of fun but approach with caution. I once heard a story of a guy who lost an arm due to a Hand Grenade…

Hurricanes and New Orleans go hand and hand. Pat O’Briens is offering up those sweet collectable souvenir glasses and a potent mix of rum. I’m not sure if your liver will fail first from alcohol or your stomach from the sugar. Regardless, Pat O’briens is a good place to hang and catch some live piano jams.

HUGE ASS BEERS, yeah you heard me. These things are HUGE, self explanatory and you can get them to go. You’re pretty much walking around with a pitcher or a take home sized container for wonton soup.

Lastly, Gentlemens Clubs You might be thinking, “meh, i don’t wanna go into any strip clubs.” But once you hit the strip you’ll be changing your mind after a few of the drinks listed about. Just remember to exercise caution with your erection. Strippers play games and the girls in the window won’t be the creatures in the back. Too many to list, and as always when visiting a Gentlemen’s club avoid the ATMs.

I hope all of you stay hydrated out there over the weekend and look forward to the stories and photos. Be sure to check out Jesters & Bourbon Rocks for the cheapest/best drinks.

Are you heading out to Bourbon Street this weekend??
What are you looking forward to drinking/doing??
Will The Gators stomp The Tigers, securing our spot as College Football Gods??
