The 12th Annual Ultra Music Festival in Downtown Miami this past weekend was surely one to remember. Over the weekend, tens of thousands of kids, bros, alts, entry-level techno’s, whistle blowinig guidos, skankalicious binky sucking weirdos, and normal looking dudes came to Bicentennial Park in search of the perfect beat. Check out some of the pics on our facebook page and videos below.

Day 1: AfrojackPunk Out
We arrived a few hours after the gates opened to avoid any large lines or mediocre acts, unfortunately, that meant that we had to sacrifice the Pretty Lights and Lotus sets. As we entered we were surrounded by low end frequencies from all directions. Laidback Luke was tearing it up at a tent between us and Passion Pitt on the main stage. In all efforts to catch a good spot for Afrojack, we made our way to the main stage and staked out a good spot only to be fooled into a LMFAO set.

Fake Blood‘s set pushed the envelope on weird electro. His set really started off with some older throw back jams but quickly moved into sounds and elements I wasn’t even comfortable listening to. Bringing it back to reality with tracks such as “Mars” and “I think I like it” had the entire crowd moving and bouncing.

Green Velvet‘s set within the Carl Cox and Friends arena was definitely a highlight of day 1. The lights in the arena this year yet again topped all previous years and created a three dimensional prism of lights/color as a backdrop. Throw in a couple hundred strobes, lazers, fog machines, dangling shapes and a huge fog horn and you can almost imagine the visual intensity not to mention the thousands upon thousands of watts of sound blasting from the speakers. Almost got kind of tired of the repetitive music but then heard “LA LA Land” drop and obviously had us looking for the after party for the rest of the night.

Day 2: Calvin Harris DJ Set
A perfect way to walk into the festival Saturday afternoon with Calvin Harris behind the decks on the main stage playing “Anyway” – Ducksauce. Calvin’s set ranged from older selections like “NYC Beat” to remixes of tracks off his latest album. I think everyone got what they were looking for, and Calvin Harris was looking like he was enjoying himself to say the least. There was no doubt that everybody was ready for the weekend.

A-Trak
This was my first experience seeing A-Trak live, and I’m not sure if he does this every set he plays but it definitely made history. Everything about the track selection, transitions, and content had everyone going off. People were dancing at the tops of trees and deadmau5 heads were flopping around breaking ears off left and right. Not to mention that he definitely dropped a song calling out Barbara Streisand.

Rusko hit the stage a little after 8pm and everyone at this point was ready for some dub-step. Anyone who was unsure of what stage to hit next was quickly prompted with the option to have a good time with Rusko. We caught a majority of the set from the same spot we caught Fake Bloods. Situated perfectly on the hillside gave everyone enough room to dance and a great view of the madness going on in front of the stage.

The night continued to roll on as Bassnectar took the stage after Rusko, leaving little time for any kind of recuperation between sets. It became evident that after a 2-day long rage-affair, that rest was eminent. For those of you who made it through both days I salute you. For those of you who made it through both days and countless after parties I admire you. Lastly, for those of you who were down in Miami throughout the entirety of The WMC, I envy you. Oh yeah, I forgot to mention:

SPOILER ALERT: ULTRA WILL BE 3 DAYS LONG NEXT YEAR

That’s right. After Deadmau5′s set, it was announced that Ultra will be 3 days long next year, after completely selling out of tickets this year. I’m not surprised, considering about 200 people bum rushed the entrance of Ultra Saturday night after they were turned away at the ticket booth.

As always, the New year brings in a bunch of new events to look forward to. Whether its your mom’s birthday or your favorite music festival, a new year means you’ll get to experience both all over again. For those of us with the itch, this means that we will be planning our spring break to coincide with The <a href="http://www.wmcon.com/"_blank">Winter Music Conference and <a href="http://www.ultramusicfestival.com/"_blank">Ultra Music Festival. You know, that time of the year when anyone who is anybody in electronic music decides that its a good time to hang out in Miami for the week.

Ultra Music Festival 2010 Teaser 2 from Richard Milstein on Vimeo.

According to <a href="http://consequenceofsound.net/festival-outlook/ultra-music-festival/"_blank">Festival Outlook the 2010 schedule is looking as follows…

A-Trak, Above & Beyond, Afrobeta, Alex Metric, Armin van Buren, ATB, Bassbin Twins vs. Uberzone, Bassnectar, The Bloody Beetroots, Carl Cox, Crookers, The Crystal Method, Deadmau5, Diplo, The Disco Biscuits, Dirty South, Eddie Halliwell, Eric Prydz, Evil Nine, Faithless Sound System, Felix da Housecat, Freeland, Ghostland Observatory, The Glitch Mob, Green Velvet, Groove Armada, Infected Mushroom, Kevens, Lotus, LTJ Bukem, Major Lazer, Plump DJs, Pretty Lights, Rabbit in the Moon (3D), Rusko, Skream, Steve Aoki, Swedish House Mafia, Tiesto, Will.i.am

So do the smart thing and purchase your tickets for the festival or any other parties you plan on attending asap to avoid paying/scalping them day of show. Yeah i know it might seem unauthentic or a waste of money to actually pay to see the biggest names in guido-trance but once you’ve had the experience, seen the people, heard the speaker rigs that tower your parents’ house, and kicked it to the biggest names in the industry, you won’t be upset.

Here is a video from my favorite set from last year.
