01.Mar.2010 Gainesville’s Fashions Weak??? - Lazaroc

Fashion has always been an interesting subject in Gainesville. As new freshmen arrive they immediately ask themselves the same question that I asked myself whenever on campus. That is… WTF are people wearing?

Taking a stroll through Turlington you’ll be able to spot all sorts of things including but not limited to jean shorts aka jorts, socks and sandals, massive cargo containers, and tucked in polos all swimming in a sea of orange striped anoraks. Gainesville is a land littered by stripped anoraks, countless graphic t’s, and a large docks worth of boat shoes.

It has become apparent that there are two extremes, polar opposites if you will, that exist in the Gainesville-brodom fashion scene. Those are Guy Harvey Bros and Ed Hardy Bros. Of course there is some sort of happy medium that exists between dressing like a South Florida guido or a Southern gentleman douchebag. I mean really, what does it matter if your shorts are pleated or if your jeans are bedazzled? Obviously the only thing that matters is what other people think, so make sure you have uniforms ready for class.

Even tho the light pastel colors remind you of that time of year that Jesus was resurrected, stay towards the darker colors to any stains from fratlunch. Match these with a beautiful rendering of your favorite catch. Be sure to carry your notes in hand, no one wants to show up to class, take off their backpack, and expose a sweaty Itchneetucknee to the group of top tier sorority girls sitting in the back. Luckily, those costa del sol crokies around your neck are attached to sunglasses to thwart off any haters.

Since I’m not a fashion diva or haven’t much of a clue about what is hot or whats not these chicks have their own blog to discuss these matters Trendy Bitch but don’t depend on consistent advice so you might want to just check out the insite magazine fashion blog.

Luckily for us, Gainesville Fashion Week lays down the laws of the land twice a year. Fashion week has been growing into a week long celebration of fashion, music, and art. Follow Gainesville Fashion Week on twitter to keep up to date with the latest happenings.
