29.Nov.2009 FSU Weekend Recap - Lazaroc

Now that the streets of University have been washed clean by the tears of students/alums/noles alike, we are finally able to reflect on what we have just experienced.

Yes, of course the weekend was like any other Game Day weekend in Gainesville. Stomping across campus with open containers, partying religiously all night at The Swamp, conversing with strangers over a slice of pizza at Italian Gator and celebrating another win thanks to Tim Tebow and The Florida Gators. These have all become traditions and it is a sad day when you realize that these days are numbered and home games with Tebow on the field are over. Mike Bianchi of The Orlando Sentinel describes Tebow and the game as such:

In his final home game in the soaring, adoring, rip-roaring Swamp on Saturday, Tebow and his Gators methodically marched to a 37-10 victory and once again made FSU look like FIU.

When Tebow was announced before the game, angels cried, harps played and Florida Field turned from green turf to a golden wheatfield as Timmy ran out in slow motion to hug Urban Meyer . Actually, none of that happened, but it should have. That’s how divine this kid’s college career and charmed life have been.

It was more than just another Florida beatdown on ol’time rivals Florida State Seminoles. It was the first real sign of the end of an era. Gators celebrated and cheered for their hero as he lapped around The Swamp for the last time in a frenzy of flashes that reminded me of something out of the Olympics. Some Seminoles however weren’t able to take the loss easily. We took the time to try and interview a few fans that stuck around after the game but they were no help.

In fact, they weren’t even awake.

It will take another week before we know the outcome of The SEC Championship game in Atlanta and “if” The Florida Gators will continue their run to secure yet another BCS National Championship. What we can say fer shore tho is that Orange & Blue is looking good.
