23.Dec.2009 End of the Year Recap - Lazaroc
As always the last few weeks of the year make for a great time to look back on the previous months to see what was hot and what was not. Whether its VH1, MTV, or your local radio station, everyone has their opinion on what was most memorable over the year. We here at The Gainesvillains have our own ideas on what would go in a 2009 time capsule.
Tim Tebow – not that anyone is planning on mummifying the body of Tim Tebow anytime soon, but if they were, it would definitely have to make its way into the time capsule. 2009 marked an end of an era as Tim Tebow graduated from our beloved University. We owe many nights of celebration and mornings of headaches to Tim and The Florida Gators.

Vijay Seixas – Easily this year’s most successful Gainesville DJ. If there is a party happening downtown, they probably have Vijay as their resident, although I still don’t know what the hell a “ZY” is. Neon Liger has been bringing sweaty electro nights and touring djs/musicians to Gainesville throughout the year.

The AOPi Scandal - The whole ordeal which transpired at the beginning of 2009 at the BCS National Championship Game in Miami, Florida. You Remember? Right? all those photos….. juicy campus….. Anoraks…….

The Bier Stick – I believe that The Bier Stick was this years most innovative and useful invention. The ability to cram 2 beers down your esophagus in 2 seconds is something that will be valued throughout the following decade. Check out Biergear for all your beer chugging needs.

Kan Jam – pretty much will revolutionize tailgating into the next decade. No longer will shirtless dudes toss bags full of beans but will soon return to the flying disc.

Tumblr – This year marked a good year for the micro blogging site Tumblr which allows users to post photos, vids, quotes, links, or anything else they so desire. No shortage of interesting subjects to “follow” and “tumble”

Twitter – I don’t know why but this social medium has become extremely popular over the year. People post what they are “doing” and then other people follow other people. Useful for finding out breaking news or who’s taking a poop.

Nike dunks – SBs, Dunks, AirForce1, this year belongs to Nike as they stomped out the competition. Only the entry-lvl bros were seen wearing vans and converse. Not getting into this years most comfortable boat shoes.

Dollar Menu – More so than previous years, the pressure of keeping your wallet and stomach as fat as possible was a pressing issue. Dollar menus really helped out those struggling college kids and the antacid industry.

Tiger Woods’ penis I mean yeah this is really recent and will most likely continue into the following year. But if there was one love scandal of the year it would be this one. Jon of Jon and Kate doesn’t have a thing on Tiger Wood’s Wood.

H1N1 – This seemingly harmless sequence of letters and numbers has been linked to deaths around the globe. Dubbed “Swine Flu” causing much confusion on what connection it really has to pigs. Regardless, Governments have used swine flu all year to control and scare the masses in order to carry out a mass vaccination. Only so they can download the latest nano-tech radio frequency identification chips into the bloodstream’s of their citizens.

Michael Jackson’s death – 2009 was a horrible year for celebrity deaths. However, if there was one death in particular that stands out it would go to The King, Michael Jackson.

Large Hadron Collider – Everyone knows that the end of the world is approaching in the upcoming decade. Some scientist over in Switzerland decided that they would try and just end it all in 09. However, their how many billion dollar contraption failed on their first attempt. Don’t worry everything is up and running and they should of sucessfully created a blackhole by 2012.

What made your year?
Are end of year lists too “cliche?”
